Top 10 Tips to Get Model Ready
Posted by sgtlmodel Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 - permalink

    Cindybikini

As you know, part of your job in being a model is keeping your body in shape and your skin looking great. Your career depends on it! I know from personal experience that this time of year can be challenging to get motivated, so here are some tips to keep you feeling your best.

1: Drink lots of water. Hydration keeps your skin glowing.

2: Exfoliate. You need to regularly remove the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion.

3: Moisturize. No matter what your skin type.

4: Always use sunscreen. No matter what kind of complexion you have. It took me years to learn this, unfortunately, but it’s never too late to start.

5: Use tinted moisturizer, not foundation. Instead of using a full-coverage foundation, which settles into fine lines and makes you look older, opt for a tinted illuminating moisturizer. I learned this from my booker at Wilhelmina, and it works phenomenally!

6: Keep your body in shape by doing cardio three times a week. I recently discovered Zumba, which gets your heart rate up and burns lots of calories, but you are also dancing, so it’s FUN.

7: Stay toned. Try light weights, yoga and Pilates – they're all great choices. Do toning exercises three times a week.

8: Eat healthfully, but don't deprive yourself. Relax your diet once a week and incorporate one of your favorite foods.

9: Always stay clean-shaven or waxed. You never know what the next casting or job will call for – it might be a bikini! You don't want to be caught off guard.

10: Keep a positive outlook, and never take anything personally. Just because you don’t book a particular job, or are not called back by an agency doesn't mean that you aren't beautiful or don't have model potential. Be persistent: One day your look will be just what they are looking for!

And remember, a loving, positive energy and inner beauty shines outward. Don’t neglect your spirit.

    Love,
    Cindy

Brooke Burke Named New Host of SGTL

Bubbly TV personality and Dancing with the Stars winner Brooke Burke will host the upcoming season of TV Land original series She's Got The Look. The star will bring a fresh perspective to the modeling competition; she has plenty of modeling experience under her belt, having appeared on multitudes of magazine covers and swimsuit calendars.

In other casting news, model/TV reporter Roshumba Williams is joining the series as a judge along with two veteran panelists, celebrity stylist Robert Verdi and Wilhelmina Models, Inc. president Sean Patterson.

"This new season of She’s Got The Look is bound to be exciting as we welcome Brooke and Roshumba on board, and we are introduced to an amazing roster of women 35 and older," said TV Land president Larry W. Jones. "Brooke’s passion for her work, her family and her joy in being a mother is relatable and inspiring to women everywhere.

"And we are thrilled that Roshumba can contribute her modeling expertise and offer her own insight to these women who have all been given a second chance at a life-long dream. Viewers will be inspired by the mentoring, friendships and the transformations experienced throughout the season."

Busy Burke, who is also an actress and motherhood correspondent for CBS daytime show The Doctors, is a household name and entrepreneur.

She honed her hosting chops on her popular E! show Wild On and a stint with CBS reality series Rock Star: INXS. As the mother of four, she's a busy celebrity who makes plenty of time for her family. As the CEO of Modern Mom, she blogs daily, giving tips for other moms on the go. She also owns the maternity e-commerce and fitness site babooshbaby.com.

She’s Got The Look, which begins production next week in L.A., sets out to discover a beautiful, sophisticated and confident woman over the age of 35 who has the potential to transform herself into a successful model.

How a TV Show Can Change Your Life

Going into the auditions for She's Got The Look, I thought, “This may be my chance to finally accomplish my unfulfilled dream of becoming a model.” At 38, I had become a certified life coach and wanted to motivate others to go for their dreams. I always thought modeling was at the top of my list of things I had yet to accomplish. Boy, was I wrong!

When the show went on the air this year, I started to get e-mails from women who were in dire situations and felt hopeless about ever turning their lives around. Achieving their dreams wasn't even something they had the luxury to think about. As they watched the show, they would take inspiration from the strength they saw in the models. I would receive updates about the steps they were taking to make things better, and in return I would send words of encouragement. I received many thanks for providing hope to them. When I was announced as the SGTL winner, I received messages from women (and men!) who literally had tears of joy. They saw me in them, in their daughters and wives. I couldn’t have been more touched by that.

As Season 3 approaches, I'm still receiving messages daily. All of a sudden, these women are inspiring ME! Their stories are incredible; after getting hope from watching the show, they're going for their dreams. Just this morning, I read four messages that brought tears to my eyes. I'm so proud of these women, seeing where they were, and a short time later witnessing the hope, passion and success they're experiencing.

I thought modeling was the one thing the show would give me a chance to do. Instead, it gave me and so many others so much more. It has inspired me to take my coaching to another level: In 2010, I will be taking it nationwide! She’s Got The Look has changed my life, and because of it, I've found my true calling. I’m not just a model, but a role model.

    Happy holidays,
    Cindy

Be a Winner! Cindy's SGTL Audition Tips
Posted by sgtlmodel Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 - permalink

Season 3 of She's Got The Look is right around the corner, and I'm excited for you all to have the opportunity I did to finally realize my dream of being a model. I've received tons of questions about auditioning for this season. Here are my tips based on what I experienced at the casting call, as well as what I wasn't prepared for, but know now!

Eat! Mom was always right: It's important to have a good breakfast. Energy is key. You need to be at your best, because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Photos: These don't have to be professional. I had a friend take some head shots and full-length shots. Make sure your natural beauty shows. A head shot (of you smiling) and a full-length showing your figure are both important. I even added a couple of extra looks that I wanted to show! Even if you already sent them in, bring extras to the open casting call.

Wardrobe: Keep it simple, casual, and above all, show your figure. It's OK to show your sense of style, but you don't want what you wear to overpower you. They want to see YOU. If you make it through to the judges, I recommend wearing the same outfit, or something similar. Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Parking: Be prepared, as you may have to walk quite a bit to get to the destination. I did!

Weather: It rained in Los Angeles last year and there was a lot of wet hair! Be prepared for all elements. Bring a sweater, jacket, umbrella, and extra socks. I wasn't prepared for auditions, but something I'm learning from my go-sees is to always carry a bag or purse large enough for a sweater, my pics and a change of shoes (as well as a book, snacks and makeup).

Be Yourself: Show your true personality. This is your one chance and it's over fast. Don't miss your shot at showing them why you have The Look!

Be Unique: I've been asked dozens of times the "height question." Hope from Season 1 was under 5'6". She had a gorgeous face and the judges loved her personality. Confidence is key. If you don't know why they should pick you, neither will they!

Last but not least, if you make it through to the final round, be prepared to pass the time. Bring a book or music — something that makes you feel good. Remember to stay positive. It's important to keep your energy level up, so bring a snack. Don't forget to pack some makeup for touch-ups. When it's your turn, go in there with confidence. You know you have The Look, now let them know.

My audition was pretty tough in front of the judges, but I'd waited my whole life for this opportunity and my lifelong desire to be a model helped me stand up to the challenge. Go in there with conviction and confidence, and most importantly, be yourself!

Click here for more information or to apply for She's Got The Look.

Best of luck to all of you,
    Cindy

Better Than a Dream: Winner Cindy's Update
Posted by sgtlmodel Friday, November 13th, 2009 - permalink

    cindy

"Is this how you've always dreamed being a model would be?" is the question I've gotten the most since winning the She's Got The Look competition and signing with Wilhelmina Models, Inc. As a matter of fact, it’s better than I ever dreamed it would be. Here's a video of my follow-up interview for the show.

After winning SGTL, my experience with modeling has been incredible. I've met so many wonderful clients and photographers – but I have to say meeting fans of the show has been the most fun. Whether in an airport, Starbucks or Las Vegas casino, I'm so grateful to meet women who are so happy for, inspired by and proud of me. You guys have all been wonderful!

After the show aired, I had to do some test shoots before the agency could start submitting me. The New York and L.A. markets are very different, so I had to have a portfolio that pertained to each one.

Yes, modeling is a job and it's definitely not always easy or glamorous, but getting paid for something you have a passion for simply can’t be beat. I’ve had plenty of 10 to 12-hour days, which can be tiring — but at the same time the perks make up for it. One of my first shoots was posing in a gown in the middle of a downtown street, which was a little intimidating. The more practice you get, the easier it gets. Not to mention fun!

One of the more glamorous shoots I had was modeling couture gowns in a beautiful home overlooking the ocean. I thought for sure that would be at the top of the list. That is, until I direct booked a three-day shoot (no audition required) for a resort and swimwear catalog. Never having done a catalog shoot, I was so nervous! For a few days before the trip I scoured catalogs, studying the poses. Then I was on a plane to my destination.

I checked into my room at the resort, which was more like a luxurious bungalow. Before bedtime (I had a 6 a.m. call time, ugh), I studied more catalog poses. The next morning I was up bright and early and on my way to look for the set. Wandering around the resort, I was taken aback by how fabulous the place was. Instead of being nervous, I started to feel so lucky to be there; my nerves were replaced with excitement. The days were long, but the clothes were beautiful, the locations were phenomenal and the clients were amazing to work with.

I guess my "catalog pose" practicing worked, as they had no idea I'd never done it before. I can’t believe after all that, I got paid for it! I know not all jobs will be so glamorous, but I am still ever so grateful that I finally achieved my dream.

It can be yours, too: She's Got The Look Season 3 is casting soon! Click here to find out the four audition dates and learn how to apply.

    Thank you for your support,
    Cindy
