Big news! Mattel just released an image of their newest edition in their “I Love Lucy” doll series: Lucy and Ethel as seen from “Lucy & Ethel Buy The Same Dress.” (Yes, that’s episode 69 for you true fans!) This edition is the 12th in a series that started back in 1997. First there was Vitameatavegamin Lucy, then the Candy Factory Lucy, Grape Stomping Lucy, Lucy & Ricky box set (from the famous episode where she tells him she’s pregnant!). | Carmen Miranda attire. In 2002 Mattel released a Lucy doll dressed in a burlap dress and horse feedbag hat. The following year found the latest Mattel edition featuring Lucy with a charcoal nose (from the scene where she sets her putty nose on fire while attempting to disguise herself from William Holden). That was followed by a Lucy doll dressed in her classic polka dot dress (as seen in the episode, “Sales Resistance”). In 2005, it was Lucy as the snaggled-tooth queen of the gypsies. And, in 2006, Mattel surprised doll collectors and Lucy fans with two editions: Lucy as the Hollywood showgirl (from “Lucy Gets In Pictures”) and a special edition Santa Lucy doll inspired by the seldom-seen “I Love Lucy” Christmas Special. Now, my question to you is this: If you could decide what episode the next “I Love Lucy” doll would be themed after, what would you pick? Me? i can't believe no one has said lucy and the loving cup. ricky has to present the "loving cup" to the jocky at a banquet and lucy wants to wear a very fashionable hat and dress she bought. ricky tells her looks ridiculous and lucy gets her head stuck in the loving cup while trying to be a smart alec. this episode is hilarious.
I love all the dolls everyone has suggested and I would buy them all but only if they fix the faces. This last set of Lucy and Ethel the images are awful!! I did not buy them.
In addition to the ones suggested, another cute one would be Lucy sitting in the hospital bed with Little Ricky when he has his tonsils out and Lucy is sleeping with a teddy bear. Would be a cute doll with a small Little Ricky! I would love a Desi and Little Ricky doll with their matching conga drums. I would love a Lucy doll when she and Ricky did a show called "Breakfast with Lucy and Ricky", she came out with her hair all messed up, big mouth of teeth and raunchy outfit for Phipps Department store. The ideas are endless!!!

The breakfast commercial Ricky and Lucy perform for Phips Department Store and Lucy sabotages the ad by dressing a mess.... Having a sound track for the song Fred and Ethel sang during the add...."When we go on a shopping trip...where else would we go but phips.... from the top floor to the bottom... " fred and Ethel dolls would be great...they had so many duets that they sang together.... honey bunch and Fred.... that would be great!

Oh, yes, Lucy and Ann Sothern, I'm a huge Ann Sothern fan! But, to be honest, I'd like a Lucy from almost every episode, the very memorable ones anyway. It's hard to pick just one!
Oh my goodness, there is so many options to choose from! Lucy when she gets the Italian haircut....Lucy as "Sally Sweet, the queen of the New York Beat"...or better yet, lucy in the sauna trying to lose weight to fit into her costume! Lucy in "Vita Vita Vegamin"--that's a classic. Ah, the possibilities are endless!
I totally love Lucy, every episode, bar none. My favorite though is when Lucy dances with Van Johnson. I think the next doll should probably be Lucy and Ethel as the martians.
This is the third time I have written in for the next idea for a Lucy doll. How about the idea of Lucy as Superman for little Ricky's birthday??? I think that would be a great doll. Does anyone else agree?????????

i think a great idea for a lucy doll would be when lucy almost misses the ship when the group heads to europe and she gets her dress caught in the messenger's bicycle.
i agree with everyone too, in that the freezer and starch lucy ideas would be great! i am sooooo disappointed in the lucy and ethel same dress dolls... what a terrible job they did on ethel, especially, but both of their arms are just pathetic. they really cut the quality on this set!
I just watched the episode where Lucy writes a book about her life. The dress she wears when she receives the letter from her publisher is to die for. White? with some kind of floral pattern just at the midrif. I love it.
I think the next dolls should be Lucy and Ethel go to charm school. After a day at Phoebe Emerson's Charm School they get all dolled up and are going out to dinner with Ricky and Fred but first they go upstairs to show Mrs. Trumble. When they first come out wearing those gowns, the audience just roars.

I faithfully attend lucy desi days, the birthday celebration, and buy all of the dolls. I must tell you, I am completely dissapointed in the new set of dolls. I got the same reaction from Lucy workers, and fans alike. The dolls dresses are very nice. BUT Lucy does not have her looks as she always does, and I don't know who designed the Ethyl doll, but who is this Ethyl? It sure isn't the same Ethyl I was seeing all those years on the television. I won't even buy this pair if it goes o sale for 99% off. as a matter of fact, I would not take it for free. Wait, let's not get hasty. I would take it for free. The first thing I would do, is take the head of the Lucy doll, and RIP IT OFF!!!!!!!! I'de find a used Lucy doll, and take that head and swap it for the new Lucy doll, from someone who had the talent before, and knews how to create the real features that the first lady of Television had. Not too sure what I'de do about the Ethyl..............have to think about that a whils.Please let me know how you feel about this. Thanks for reading, and sorry Lucy lovers, If you REALLY LOVE LUCY, you would agree with me on this, as did the dozen workers I spoke to about this.

Hello, I just started watching I love lucy a month ago and by far my favorite has been "Lucy gets in pictures". My dad got me the "Lucy gets in pictures" doll and its absolutly beautifull. I was doing some research and I found out that franklin mint has the showgirl outfit for their doll, but its blue and the one that my doll has is pink. how bout the ? remake of the pilot thought 2 have been lost - 'the audition' when Lucy steps in for buffo the clown, or 'the girls want to go to a nightclub' when they jenny somebody arrange 4 Lucy & Ethel 2 b their dates - the fur coat, omygoodness her doing the impression of a mink, the gossip when she is acting out like a charade game - i do love the indian show tho, when she turns around & has little ricky in that pouch, she & john wayne, she & harpo, k, the tears r flowing...

Lucy dressed as a martian is a great idea! However, I would love to see the whole gang in the outfits from "Pioneer Women" or dressed more to the age in "California, Here We Come!" I would also LOVE to see just Lucy and Ricky...maybe all dressed up from the "Sentimental Anniversary" episode?
Hi, I've written that I would LOVE to se all 4 in a set for California Here We Come- but I'd also LOVE to see Lucy when she was The Wicked City Woman, in the episode with Ernie Ford. That's another great one!!!!!
My son (age 12) and I are huge I love Lucy fans. We have both always thought that Lucy dressed as a martian would be a perfect doll. A set with Ethel included would be even better. I personally love the "Friendship" set with Ethel included. My all-time favorite episode is "Lucy Raises Tulips". It would be great if Mattel could somehow create a doll that has Lucy on the riding lawn mower with sticks in her hair and clothing. Another idea might be from the episode where Lucy dresses up as the "wicked city girl" to help drive Cousin Ernie back home. Or what about the episode with Orson Wells where Lucy comes out of the dressing room in a scuba diving outfit? As others have previously commented, the list could go on and on...
In Episode 31; "The publicity Agent" Lucy dresses up as the Maharincess of Franistan. I think that would make an ideal episode to design the doll after.

Gosh, it is so hard to pick what the next doll should be. From almost every episode of I Love Lucy, there could be a doll or dolls made. I think the 'freezer' episode would make a great doll, so would the 'starch' and 'aliens from mars' episodes too. I just watched the 'loving cup' episode the other day, that might make for a fun doll. They could do the whole cast in a set. Ricky, Lucy, Fred, Ethel, Little Ricky and Fred (the dog)!
My fave episode is The Operetta... have they already done one of Lucy as Queen of the Gypsies? I might also vote for Lucy as Superman, Lucy with the nose on fire from the William Holden episode, Lucy in the Vaudeville act (complete with cello or horns). Hey, why not Fred and Ethel as the two-headed dragon? Or the Lucy, Fred, and Ethel from the home movie? Oh, the list could go on an on...
They have already made the Queen of the Gypsy's doll and the one where her nose catches on fire in front of Bill Holden. Lucy as Superman is a good idea.... I think the vaudeville act one would be good too. You are right, the list could go on and on.....lol
I am a true and dear fan of I Love Lucy, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour and all of her other appearances and shows! I think that Lucy and Tallulah Bankhead would be an awesome choice because you could get very creative with the various costumes and hillarious paint scenes they have to offer in the celebrity next door! I also think that the idea of lucy and ann southern would be a good idea.
I think that Lucy as a Martian would be a good choice as the next in the series of Lucy dolls.
I also think Lucy after she fell in the vat of starch and Lucy being locke in the freezer would also be good.

Hi, I believe that the next doll set should be of all four in "Californa Here We Come". I think it would be GREAT to have all FOUR dolls in a set. I know it probably would be expensive- but I think very well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a disappointment...I, too, was hoping for the Women from Mars outfits. I can't think of anything more "Lucy & Ethel" than that one! If you ask a crowd of Lucy fans which episode, focused primarily on Lucy & Ethel, comes to mind first, I guarantee "Lucy and Ethel Buy The Same Dress" is NOT the one they'd remember. It may not be Women from Mars either, but The Same Dress wouldn't even make the list most likely. I've often thought that Franklin Mint should have included a Lucy Baby Martian in their now retired Lucy Baby doll series. She would have been drop dead adorable! Every now and then, Franklin Mint knocks one out of the park (not too often) and the Lucy babies were so very well done.
What about Lucy and Ricky from the episode "Young Fans"? Dressed up "old" to scare Peggy and Arthur...but the Martian episode is great too...
